South Austin Hospitals
St. David’s and Seton are two medical providers that have healthcare facilities throughout Central Texas and both have medical centers that are close to the South Austin townhome development of Ravenscroft. St. David’s South Austin is a much larger facility than Seton Southwest, but both hospitals have a 24-hour emergency room and a maternity ward. St. David’s staff consists of specialists in cancer, orthopedics, cardiology, obstetrics, sleep disorders and wound care. Seton South Austin is primarily an outpatient facility staffed with specialists in sports medicine and rehabilitative therapy. Both hospitals consider diabetes to be a major concern in the local community, and both offer free educational seminars to the public on a regular basis. Both facilities welcome volunteers who want to donate their time to join the team and help make patient and visitor stays a little more pleasant. Contact the hospital for more information if you’re interested in contributing your time to this worthy cause.

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center is a full-service hospital located north of the South Austin townhomes in Ravenscroft. The Emergency Department includes both emergency and urgent care and is open 24 hours a day. Urgent care is appropriate for non-life threatening injuries, colds, flu, earaches and other common ailments. No appointment is necessary. The hospital has 252 beds and specializes in cardiovascular and maternity care. Educational diabetes programs are presented to the public and dieticians are available to assist with designing eating programs to manage weight or illnesses. The center also has a sleep lab and provides respiratory therapy to adults and children. There’s an onsite lab and pharmacy for the patient’s convenience. The administrative staff at St. David’s assists patients without adequate health insurance to obtain government or in-house financial assistance. The hospital provides a discount payment plan to those who don’t qualify for government aid, and interested persons should contact the hospital directly. In order to optimize high quality care for elderly patients, St. David’s opened a senior primary care facility just south of the hospital. The facility is staffed with internists and primary care physicians who accept Medicare payments for their services.
Seton Southwest Hospital
The Seton Southwest Hospital is west of Ravenscroft and is an acute care facility with 11 beds in the medical/surgical unit, no cafeteria and no posted weekend visiting hours. The hospital specializes in sports and rehabilitative medicine. The facility has two large aqua therapy pools equipped with underwater treadmills. The water provides buoyancy and allows the patient to exercise more freely and experience a greater range of motion. Pilate classes are offered to outpatients as part of their rehabilitation and evening classes are available to the public. In addition to the rehabilitation programs, Seton Southwest has six maternity suites where a mother stays until she’s discharged; labor, birth and postpartum all occur in the same room although there is a separate suite for Cesarean deliveries. The hospital offers a variety of classes geared toward couples who are preparing for childbirth. Seton is committed to promoting diabetes education and offers healthy cooking classes and dietician-led grocery store tours in other parts of Austin.
