Golf Courses
The South Austin townhomes subdivision of Ravenscroft is ideally situated for the golfing members of the family. Inexpensive public courses as well as private clubs are only a short drive away. The Jimmy Clay and Roy Kizer golf courses are part of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department and since they’re municipal golf courses, the greens fees and cart rentals are very reasonably priced. The two courses lie next to each other and are located northeast of the Ravenscroft subdivision of Austin townhomes. Grey Rock is west of Ravenscroft and is a membership club that’s also open to the public at premium rates. Jimmy Clay, Roy Kizer and Grey Rock are all 18-hole courses. Onion Creek is a 27-hole private club located southeast of Ravenscroft.

Jimmy Clay
Jimmy Clay is one of five municipal golf courses in Austin. Joe Finger designed the course that opened in 1974. In 2007, it underwent extensive renovations that included the redesign of three holes, and refurbished greens and bunkers throughout the course. The course is a relatively flat 6,918 yards and can be combined with the adjoining Roy Kiser golf course and played as a 36-hole course. Jimmy Clay is closed for maintenance the first Monday of every month.

Roy Kizer Golf Course
The Roy Kizer golf course lies south of Jimmy Clay and is regarded as a premier public golf course. The course consists of 6,749 yards and plays as a par 71. There are five sets of tees at each hole so that players of all levels may enjoy the game. The course is on 200 acres of land and 35 of those acres are lakes. Roy Kizer is closed the fourth Monday of every month, and the fees are slightly higher than at Jimmy Clay.

Grey Rock Golf Club
In addition to an 18-hole, 6,859 yards golf course, the Grey Rock Golf Club offers fine dining, membership events and a golf academy. The course is lined with oak trees, but the fairways remain reasonably wide. The facility is well equipped for hosting tournaments, and the golf academy tailors its instruction to meet the needs of any type of group, including children. Membership privileges include waived green fees, members-only games and exclusive tee times. Members can also participate in a men’s league that plays in 9-hole events every Wednesday during the warmer months and special weekend tournaments throughout the year.

Onion Creek Club
Onion Creek Club is a members-only club that offers golf, tennis, swimming, a fitness center and fine dining. Private and group golf, swimming and tennis lessons are available for members of all ages and skill levels. If you feel the need to stretch additional muscles, the fitness center provides personal trainers and group exercise classes. For the more sedentary types, a social membership program is available for individuals who wish to dine at the club, but not participate in the other activities. There are varied dining options available; a formal dining room for lunch and dinner, a more casual grille, a snack bar, a bar and poolside service. Sunday morning and Wednesday night buffets are served in the main dining room.
